Encino Man, 54, Charged With Attempted Murder For Griffith Park Beating

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities have charged a 54-year-old Encino man with attempted murder following a bearing of another man in Griffith Park on Monday.

The Los Angeles County District Attorney's Office announced that Tyrone Isumu was charged with one count of attempted murder.

The victim is now comatose and has paralysis, officials said.

The complaint against Isumu adds an alleggation of committing great bodily injury.

Prosecutors said that Isumu struck the victim -- multiple times -- with a rock. They also said Isumu hit the unidentified victim with a large steel trash can.

The victim was airlifted to Cedar-Sinai Medical Center.

Isumu fled but was later captured by police.

The victim and suspect were both described as possible transients with Isumu having an Encino address.

If convicted, Isumu faces a possible maximum term of life in prison with the possibility of parole.

The DA asked for bail to be set at more than $500,000.

In court Wednesday, Isumu pleaded not guilty to the charge.
