'Tinkerbell' Reunited With Owners After Escaping In Camarillo Springs Storm
VENTURA COUNTY (CBSLA.com) — A dachshund thought to have been lost in a debris flow was reunited with her owners Sunday in Camarillo Springs.
According to the Ventury County Fire Department, Tinkerbell was spotted by neighbors sitting in a window of a home.
Crews responded to the residence and made the rescue.
A short time later, the the dog's owner arrived by taxi for an emotional reunion, firefighters explained.
On Friday, a river of mud came down a mountain behind about a dozen homes, which traveled through the residence of Henry and Mim Needham, officials explained.
"The sliding glass door broke, all the furniture started moving, breaking, and the door flew open," Mim Needham said. "I was literally swept out by the mud."
Henry was buried in waist-deep mud, but was eventually freed by firefighters that used a chainsaw to break through the front door.
In 2013, the Springs fire burned within 45 feet of the Needham's home.
Officials reported that the heavy rain caused storm drains to clog, leaving hillside debris with nowhere to go during the storm.
According to authorities, 11 homes were evacuated for several hours on Saturday while geologists assessed the safety of the area.
The Needham's have lived in their home on San Como Lane for 13 years, and plan to rebuild their home.
In the meantime, they were still rejoicing Monday about being reunited with their pup.
"Having this little girl back, I can't explain it," Henry Needham said.
