EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — The driver whose shooting death precipitated a a multi-vehicle crash on East Garvey Avenue on Tuesday has been identified by the Los Angeles County coroner's office.

Jose Radillo, 20, was pronounced dead at a hospital following the car-to-car shooting in the 9300 block of East Garvey Avenue, near Rosemead Avenue, authorities said. The shooting was reported at 4:30 p.m. Tuesday, according to Los Angeles County sheriff's Deputy Peter Gomez.

The sheriff's department did not list a city of residence for Radillo, although the San Gabriel Valley Tribune said he was from Downey.

Authorities continue to look for the vehicle from which Radillo was shot. The sheriff's department said someone inside the suspect vehicle opened fire on Radillo as both vehicles were eastbound on Garvey near Muscatel Avenue.

After the shooting, Radillo's vehicle struck three others before it came to a stop.

A woman passenger in Radillo's vehicle was not injured, Gomez said, and a motive for the shooting was unknown.

The suspect vehicle, which made a U-turn and headed west on Garvey Avenue after the shooting, is described as dark colored and mid-size, according to Deputy Crystal Hernandez.

The sheriff's department asks that anyone with information on the incident contact its homicide bureau at (323) 890-5500.
