LAPD: 7-Year-Old Boy Dies After Being Run Over By Ice Cream Truck

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 7-year-old boy has died after being run over by an ice cream truck in South Los Angeles.

The child was riding an electronic bicycle and was trying to keep up with the truck when he lost control and fell underneath the truck's back wheels, police said.

He was subsequently run over.

The accident happened on East 97th near Wall streets about 7:15 p.m. Wednesday.

"I walked outside. He was lying on the ground bleeding, so I just tried to comfort the family 'cause they was screaming," said witness Linda Black. "It's really sad because I have a kid that is younger than he is."

The child was taken to Harbor-UCLA Medical Center, where he died.

"He's well-loved around here. He play with all the kids. He play with my grandson," neighbor Jackie Johnson said.

After the accident a group of people attacked the ice cream vendor, police said. They reportedly threw bricks at the truck and smashed the windshield. The driver sustained some bumps and bruises.

No charges or arrests have been made in the death of the child. The driver has been cooperating with police.
