Boy Still In Critical Condition After Being Struck By Car In Torrance

TORRANCE (CBSLA.com) — One of the two children struck as they crossed an intersection in Torrance remains in critical condition Wednesday, authorities said.

The children, an 11-year-old girl and a 5-year-old boy, were in a cross walk when they were struck by a car at the intersection of Newton and Madison streets about 8:50 a.m. Tuesday, Torrance police Lt. Mark Underwood said.

The boy suffered major injuries and remains hospitalized in critical condition, a Torrance police sergeant said. The girl suffered minor injuries.

It's not known if the children are related.

According to Underwood, a Chevrolet Sonic was turning eastbound onto Newton Street when it struck the children. The driver, who stopped at the scene, was not injured, Underwood said. Alcohol was not a factor in the crash.

Police say donations of A- and O- blood are needed at Harbor UCLA Medical Center, 1000 W. Carson St. in Torrance, for the child. For more information, call (323) 396-5576.

Anyone with information about the accident can call the Torrance Police Department's Traffic Division at (310) 618-5557.
