Police: Oxnard Man Held BB Gun At Victim To Steal Beer And Cell Phone

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — An 18-year-old man was arrested Sunday for allegedly committing an armed robbery with a BB gun.

According to the Oxnard Police Department, Eduardo Montiel of Oxnard was arrested and booked in the Ventura County Jail for armed robbery.

Around 1:00 a.m., officers were sent to the 3300 block of Merced Place regarding a report of an armed robbery.

The victim told officers that a Hispanic male approached him with a hand gun and stole his beer and cell phone before running away.

During their investigation, the Montiel returned to the scene and fled on foot when he saw officers.

He discarded the BB gun as he ran, but was detained a short distance away from the scene.

Officers reported that the BB gun looked like a real gun after they recovered it from the area.

Montiel is being held on $50,000 bail.
