2 Of 5 Teens Killed In Irvine Crash Laid To Rest

IRVINE (CBSLA.com) — Two of the five teenaged victims killed in a fiery crash on the I-5 freeway in Irvine over a week ago were laid to rest on Saturday.

Matthew Melo, 14, and Jenny Campos, 15, were among the five teens killed in the crash, which California Highway Patrol officials say occurred after driver and lone-survivor Bradley Morales, 16, was driving with no license and was speeding.

Funeral services were held Friday morning for Alejandro Sotelo and Brandon Moreno at Mission Basilica San Juan Capistrano.

The victims were killed after a night at Knott's Berry Farm.

Friends, teammates and loved ones gathered at Melo's service to share thoughts and memories.

"He lived a life this big, in this amount of time," Melo's math teacher Theresa Miller described. "Isn't that amazing?"

"Even though he's not here, he will always be remembered in my heart as a confident, happy kid," friend Gerardo Hernandez said. "Rest in peace."

At another church in Orange County, mourners, many of which wore T-shirts with Campos' picture on it, gathered to remember her life as well.

The community has gathered around Melo's father, who coaches the soccer team that his son, Moreno, and Sotelo played on for years. Money has been raised to help pay for the funeral expenses.

Melo's father says he intends to continue coaching the team, and that his family also plans to set up a scholarship in his memory.
