Boy Improving After Suffering Severe Electrical Shock At Temecula Pool Party

TEMECULA (CBSLA.com) — A boy in Riverside County is under hospital care after suffering a severe electrical shock at a backyard party.

Elijah Belden, 10, was pulled out of a medically induced coma and was breathing on his own.

Belden's parents, who set up the Pray For Elijah Belden Facebook page, shared a picture of him, awake, over the site. Over social media, they stated, "Words just can't express how happy mom and dad are that our son was able to tell us his name moments after the tube was removed."

"My wife and I are overwhelmed with the amount of support from everyone," father Tony Belden said.

Elijah had been celebrating his 10th birthday at a pool party in his back yard in Temecula, when he touched a metal support pole near the pool that had a string of lights on it.

One moment, he was posing for a picture, and in the next, he fell to the ground.

"The fact that my wife was standing right by him, to be able to respond so quickly, we're just so grateful," Tony said.

Elijah's parents say that doctors and nurses are not allowing visitors to see Elijah as of Monday, urging rest.

A fundraisers is set to be held by Menchie's Frozen Yogurt in Temecula, with a portion of the proceeds benefiting Elijah's family.
