Alleged DUI Motorist Accused Of Fatally Striking Pedestrian In Van Nuys

VAN NUYS (CBSLA.com)   —  Authorities say a 22-year-old motorist is accused of causing the death of a pedestrian in Van Nuys Saturday.

The driver, identified as Roberto Jiminez of Van Nuys, is accused of also driving under the influence.

The incident occurred about 11:50 p.m. Saturday on Sepuveda Boulevard near Victory Boulevard, according to the LAPD's Valley Traffic Division.

Police said Jiminez was driving a 1999 Toyota 4Runner southbound on Sepulveda when the SUV veered in a southwest direction, hitting the curb
and onto the sidewalk.

The vehicle struck 23-year-old Haley Coreas of Van Nuys, who was pronounced dead at the scene, police said.

The vehicle also hit a block wall and ended up on its side, according to the LAPD.

Jimenez was arrested on suspicion of driving under the influence of alcohol, police said.
