$50K Reward Announced For Information In Transgender Killing

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — A reward has been offered for information leading to the identity, arrest and prosecution of three suspects in connection with the killing of a transgender woman.

The $50,000 reward stems from the fatal shooting of Aniya Knee Parker on Oct. 2 at about 3:00 a.m., in the area of Melrose and Kenmore avenues in East Hollywood.

According to officials, Parker was shot following a verbal dispute with the suspects, who were described as three Latino males approximately between 20 to 25 years of age.

The reward was announced Friday at an 11 a.m. news conference, Los Angeles police said in a department statement.

Parker was transported to a hospital where she died in surgery.

Parker's family was present at the conference, pleading for the public's help.

"We didn't get a chance to say goodbye," Parker's sister Adrian said. "We didn't get a chance to give him one last hug."

While police say the murder points to a street robbery gone bad, Parker's purse was not taken from the scene, and authorities say they are not sure what the suspects may have taken.

The shooting was caught on surveillance video; a fact that means that, while Parker's family knows they will have to watch it multiple times in order to assist investigation, they are grateful that they are not left to wonder what happened.

"I'm really thankful that it was on video," Adrian said. "Otherwise, I wouldn't have known how it happened."

The video reveals the three suspects confronting Parker, grabbing her purse as she runs across the street. The gunman is then sheet aiming his weapon.

People in the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual, Transgender community suggest the murder was a hate crime.
