Police Seek Help In Finding Angel Stadium Attack Suspects

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Police are looking for as many as three suspects who attacked a man in an Angel Stadium of Anaheim parking lot following Friday night's ALDS game.

The 43-year-old man who was attacked was hospitalized in critical condition on Sunday.

"It seemed like it was just a random attack in the parking lot for apparently no reason," Anaheim police Lt. Bob Dunn told CBS2's Greg Mills.

Dunn said it appears that alcohol was involved, but witnesses indicate that it had nothing to do rival team loyalties, unlike the horrific beating of Giants fan Bryan Stow in a Dodger Stadium parking lot three years ago.

"No, we haven't had a history of that at our stadium, luckily," Dunn said.

Witnesses flagged down police about 10:30 p.m. Friday, shortly after the Angels' 4-1 loss to the Kansas City Royals in 11 innings, and reported a fight, Dunn said. Officers found the man unresponsive on the ground. Witnesses said three men attacked the victim and then ran off.

"During that attack, the victim was struck several times with what we believe to be either hands or feet or both," Dunn said. "No weapons were involved."

Angels fans who gathered at the OC Sports Grill to watch Game 3 of the ALDS against the Royals on Sunday said they feel safe in the stadium's parking lots.

"With CSC (security group) and (Anaheim) police our parking lot is well protected," Angels Vice President of Communications Tim Mead said in a statement to CBS2.

Neither the Angels nor police would indicate how many people are on duty, although Dunn said Anaheim police bring in additional officers for postseason games.

Police hope that anyone who may have cell phone photos or video of the attack will come forward to assist in the investigation.
