Crucifix Stolen From Oxnard Catholic Church

OXNARD (CBSLA.com) — A man was wanted Friday for allegedly stealing a crucifix from a Ventura County church.

According to police, a male suspect walked into Santa Clara Catholic Church, 323 S. "E" Street in Oxnard, on Wednesday afternoon and stole the cross.

"The crucifix has significant sentimental value to the Church and the parishioners that worship there," Det. Lucy Buttell said.

The suspect is described as a Hispanic man in his 30s, about 5 feet 9 inches tall and 170 pounds. He has a shaved head, dark eyes and a "very large, bushy mustache," police said.

Anyone with information should contact Oxnard police at (805)385-7740.

Ventura County Crime Stoppers has announced a cash reward of up to $1,000 for information leading to an arrest. Anonymous tips can be placed at 1-800-222-TIPS, www.tipsubmit.com, or text "BUSTED" plus message to CRIMES (274637).
