Historic LA Restaurant Set To Move Without Celebrity Wall Mural
WEST HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A historic Los Angeles restaurant will soon move to Beverly Hills after 40 years in operation.
The Palm Restaurant, now on Santa Monica Boulevard in West Hollywood, originally opened to the public in 1975.
Since opening, the restaurant has become well-known for special wall décor that celebrates the history of Los Angeles celebrities.
Co-owner Bruce Bozzi Jr. said employees will transition to the new location; however, the wall of faces will not.
Faces adorning the walls at the West Hollywood location include celebrities such as Leonardo DiCaprio, John Travolta, Andy Williams, Adam Levine and Daniel Craig.
"These walls really reflect music and movies," said Bozzi. "This room celebrates people who have migrated West and reinvented themselves. It's a really special room."
The Palm originally opened in New York in 1926, where artists painted faces on the restaurant's walls in exchange for a meal.
The trend continued in every Palm restaurant that has opened since.
"The Palm is authentic because the walls grow," said Bozzi.
Before the West Hollywood location shuts down, about 2,300 faces will be carved out of the walls and be given to the celebrity or a member of their family.
As soon as the Beverly Hills location opens, Bozzi said, the restaurant will start from scratch and continue the mural tradition with new celebrity faces.
It was unclear when the new location will open for business.
