Robbery Suspect Killed After Standoff In O.C.

ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a suspect who barricaded himself inside a vehicle at an Orange County insurance lot has died after being struck by police gunfire.

The incident in the lot on Tustin Avenue north of Miraloma Avenue unfolded after the suspect and another person robbed a Fry's Electronics Store on East La Palma Avenue, police said

After the robbery, the pair fled in a sport-utility vehicle that subsequently crashed inside the lot.

One of the two suspects was taken into custody almost immediately, while the second suspect held police at bay for hours.

Aerial footage of the incident captured images of the suspect during the standoff walking out of the vehicle and trying other cars.

At one point, police fired pepper balls at the suspect's car, reported Sky9's Stu Mundel.

"Officers from Anaheim P.D. were using less-that-lethal force trying to get this guy to come out of the vehicle using pepper balls and etcetera but the suspect opened fire on the officer's vehicles. They returned with live fire," Mundel said.

No further information was immediately available.
