Only On 2: Alleged Robber Detained By Glendale Homeowner Until Police Arrived

GLENDALE (CBSLA.com) — A 25-year-old man was behind bars Friday after a homeowner caught him in the act of attempting to rob her home, authorities said.

According to police, Aram Humbardzunyan was arrested on suspicion of burglary and robbery Thursday.

The 63-year-old homeowner returned to her apartment in the 1100 block of Spazier Avenue just after noon when she encountered a strange man in her bedroom, officers said.

Authorities said Humbardzunyan allegedly had a towel over his head while he attempted to steal the woman's jewelry.

CBS2's Erica Nochlin spoke with the homeowner and her neighbor who assisted in capturing the would-be robber.

"I think she's an incredibly brave woman," the neighbor said.

The homeowner said she immediately pulled off Humbardzunyan's mask and questioned who he was.

He proceeded to push her to the ground; however, she was able to get back up and pulled on the back of his shirt. As he begged for her to let go of him, she screamed.

A next-door neighbor who wishes to remain anonymous said she heard the chaos and called 911.

The two women were able to detain Humbardzunyan inside the home and retrieve the stolen jewelry.

When officers arrived on scene, he was sitting on a couch while the women stood in the living room, officials said.

The homeowner believed that Humbardzunyan climbed up on a table that was located under an open window and gained access by cutting the screen.

Police said he had razor blades, a screwdriver, a small knife and other tools that are often used for burglaries in his possession.

Officers urged the public to keep their windows and doors locked and to report any suspicious activity to police at (818) 548-4911.
