Man Gets Jail Time For Leading Police On South LA Pursuit, Striking Gordo

LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man has pleaded guilty Friday to leading police on a wild chase through South Los Angeles this week, and striking a dog named Gordo in the process.

Yovani Rodriguez of Los Angeles was sentenced to two years in prison after being convicted of a pair of felonies and a misdemeanor, the Los Angeles County District Attorney's office said in a written statement.

The charges included fleeing a pursuing police officer's motor vehicle while driving recklessly, driving or taking a vehicle without consent, and hit-and-run resulting in property damage.

The statement said the pursuit unfolded Wednesday night after a California Highway Patrol officer observed a stolen vehicle near Manchester and Central avenues.

During the pursuit, Rodriguez ran over a white dog named Gordo.

Rodriguez was subsequently detained. Gordo, who underwent surgery, was reported to be recovering.

The statement also said Rodriguez was ordered to appear at a restitution hearing next month.
