Woman Sunbathing Run Over By County Vehicle On Venice Beach

VENICE (CBSLA.com) — A sunbather was recovering at a local hospital Tuesday after she was run over by a Los Angeles County vehicle at Venice Beach.

The accident happened near the intersection of Ocean Front Walk and Venice Boulevard around 4:30 p.m. Monday.

Officials said a lifeguard was driving the county-owned vehicle across the beach and did not see the 25-year-old woman lying in the sand when he ran her over. He immediately stopped the vehicle and rendered aid to the the woman.

She was transported to a local hospital with fractures and internal injuries, however, she was able to give a statement to police Monday night, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

Risk management officials were continuing their investigation into the incident Tuesday.

Monday's incident marked the second time in four months that a sunbather was run over by a county vehicle.

In May, a woman was laying face down in the sand when a sanitation truck, which was clearing debris, ran over her.

The driver claimed he did not see the 49-year-old woman, who was hospitalized with serious injuries.
