Dodgers' Ryu Receives Injection In Left Shoulder, Shut Down For 4 Days
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com/AP) — Los Angeles Dodgers pitcher Hyun-Jin Ryu received a cortisone injection in his left shoulder on Monday and won't throw for at least four days.
The team said that Ryu had an MRI with dye, which showed no changes from his previous MRI that was done in May.
Ryu left his start on Friday after one inning, complaining of tightness and pain in his shoulder. He said the injury felt similar to one that landed him on the disabled list earlier this season.
The plan for Ryu is to skip his scheduled start Wednesday in Colorado to rest. He will rejoin the team in Chicago and resume throwing. Dodgers manager Don Mattingly didn't completely rule out Ryu being back in the rotation next week, but quickly added, "I want to see how everything goes. In Chicago, we'll see where we're at."
Mattingly was relieved to hear that it was just inflammation. Ryu is an integral part of the rotation as the Dodgers try to hold off San Francisco down the stretch for the NL West crown.
"Good news as far as we're concerned," Mattingly said. "I felt pretty good going into it. I talked to Hyun-Jin before he left. He didn't seem too nervous about it."
Ryu is 14-7 with a 3.38 ERA this season.
Ryu spent time on the disabled list near the beginning of the season.
