Body Found Inside Car In Walmart Parking Lot Is ID'd

RIVERSIDE (CBSLA.com) — The body of a man found inside the trunk of a vehicle parked at a Walmart in Riverside has been identified, authorities said Sunday.

The Riverside County Sheriff's Department identified the victim overnight as 33-year-old Miguel Angel Perez of Pomona.

The gruesome discovery was made by a woman, who had opened her trunk on Saturday afternoon at the Walmart parking lot at Van Buren Boulevard and Wells Avenue.

"She had come to Walmart here. Smelled something funny in her car. Opened her trunk up and there's a body inside," said Riverside police Sgt. David Amador.

Authorities said the woman recognized the decedent as an acquaintance from her Pomona neighborhood. He was believed to be a transient who was staying inside a vacant home.

Riverside police Lt. McDonald said there were no visual marks on the body.
