Stolen Car Suspect Plows Into Home With Couple Upstairs

COSTA MESA (CBSLA.com) — A man in a stolen car lost control of the vehicle and careened into a two-story home in Costa Mesa, authorities said.

A man and his wife, who is pregnant, were upstairs when the 2012 Ford Fusion plowed into their living room around 11:40 p.m. Tuesday, Costa Mesa police said.

The man left the vehicle, a rental car reportedly nabbed the day before in Huntington Beach, sitting in the home as he took off on foot down the 2700 block of Mendoza Drive.

The couple wasn't injured but have been displaced now that their home is red-tagged from the damage.

Witnesses said the suspect was speeding while rounding a turn and lost control of the car.

The man was described as Latino, 5-foot-7 and 130 pounds. He had short, dark hair and was wearing a dark shirt and pants.

Anyone with information on the crash was asked to call traffic Investigator Darren Wood at (714) 754-5264.
