Aliso Viejo School To Remain Closed Through 9/11 Anniversary

ALISO VIEJO (CBSLA.com) — An emailed threat that prompted a two-day closure of a private elementary school in Aliso Viejo was sent from outside the United States, Orange County sheriff's officials said Wednesday.

Although investigators say there is no evidence that the threat against St. Mary & All Angels School is credible, school administrators have decided to keep the school closed again Sept. 11, according to the Sheriff's Department.

St. Mary's, which serves about 800 students from kindergarten through eighth grade, was closed Tuesday and Wednesday in response to the threat received Monday, authorities said.

The school was closed as a "strictly precautionary measure," Orange County Sheriff's Department Lt. Jeff Hallock said.

At the Sheriff's Department's request, all school activities were held inside Monday. School administrators sent an email to parents Monday night.

"The safety of our students is our top priority. We will not be holding school until the Sheriff's Department determines there is not a credible threat and that our students, faculty and staff can safely return to school," Head of School Sharon Taylor said.

Last week, Fountain Valley High School received a bomb and campus shooting threat via email from a student's account that was hacked.

It was later determined the threat was a hoax, but classes were canceled Wednesday.

Authorities would not comment on if the two incidents were related.

"I don't want to speculate on drawing any connections between any other school campuses," Hallock said.
