Woman, 56, Dies Days After Santa Ana Hit-And-Run

SANTA ANA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a 56-year-old woman died Friday of injuries sustained in a hit-and-run collision in Santa Ana earlier this week.

The two-car crash on Monday happened just before 7 p.m. on North Broadway and West Santa Ana Boulevard.

Officials said Maria Rodriguez of Orange was a passenger in a Nissan Xterra driven by her husband. The vehicle was struck by a Dodge Stratus before it slammed into a tree.

Following the crash, Rodriguez was taken to an area hospital in grave condition. She died Friday. Her husband was badly injured and remains hospital.

Officials identified the suspected driver as Guillermo Velasquez Flores. Flores was arrested on Sept. 2, on suspicion of felony hit-and-run.

Santa Ana police said in a department statement that officials have requested that charges against Flores be amended.
