Man Booked In Connection With Theft Of 500 Feet Of Copper Wire

PHELAN (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say a man has been booked in connection with the theft of nearly 500 feet of copper wire.

The theft was discovered Aug. 28 when Deputy Mike Reardon responded to the Phelan Pinon Hills Commercial Service District on a report of a commercial burglary, officials said.

According to authorities, the thief cut a lock and entered the location. Subsequently, the thief yanked 500 feet of heavy-gauge copper wiring from the ground with a vehicle.

Officials said in a written statement issued by the Victor Valley Sheriff's Department that the wire was dragged for about a mile before it was placed into the thief's vehicle.

About a week after the theft, authorities were led to a home in the 12000 block of Ponderosa in Pinon Hills, where they recovered two stolen vehicles.

The statement said the wire, which had been scrapped, was recovered and returned to the victim.

Authorities identified the man suspected in the thefts as Kyle Peairs. Peairs was booked at the Victor Valley Jail, where he was being held in lieu of $25,000 bail.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call Deputy Robert Oakleaf at (760) 552-6800.
