Overnight Car-To-Car Shooting On 60 Freeway Marks 3rd In SoCal Within Past Week

SOUTH EL MONTE (CBSLA.com) — Authorities are searching for a suspect who opened fire on a car on the 60 Freeway in South El Monte.

The shooting happened on the eastbound lanes of the thoroughfare near the Rosemead Boulevard exit overnight Saturday.

Investigators arrived on scene following a report of a shooting and found the victim being wheeled away in an ambulance.

The victim, who was taken to an area hospital, was not struck by a bullet but was injured by shattered glass. The driver is expected to survive.

The victim's vehicle was shot at numerous times on the driver's side, CBS2's Joy Benedict reported. A motive was not known.

The suspect vehicle was only described as a dark-colored sedan.

The shooting marked the third car-to-car shooting within the last 6 days and the fifth since mid-July in Southern California.

Although there are similarities, investigators cautioned that the incidents do not appear to be connected.
