Additional Charges Filed Against O.C. Piano Teacher Accused Of Lewd Acts

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Authorities say additional charges have been filed against a Lake Forest music teacher who was arrested earlier this month on suspicion of molesting or taking obscene photos of four of his female students.

The Orange County District Attorney's office (OCDA) said in a written statement that John Mordecai Scott was charged Friday with additional felony counts for allegedly committing lewd acts upon a fifth girl.

On Aug. 12, Scott was charged with fourteen felony counts, which included allegations of lewd acts on a child and distributing pornography to a minor, among others.

The written statement said Scott faces a maximum sentence of 111 years and four months to life in prison if convicted on all counts.

Scott, who remains jailed on $1 million bail, is scheduled for another arraignment on Sept. 26.

According to authorities, the 58-year-old is accused of showing and taking inappropriate photos to and of minors while offering piano lessons between the years 1997 to 2013. He is also accused of committing lewd acts on three students.

Anyone with more information about this case was asked to call OCSD Investigator Sandra Longnecker at (714) 647-7418 or Supervising District Attorney Investigator Paul Carvo at (714) 347-8794.
