Retired Sheriff's Deputy Gets Probation For Firing Gun Over Kids Prank

SANTA CLARITA (CBSLA.com) — A 46-year-old retired sheriff's deputy who fired his gun into the air after a children's prank was banned Thursday from owning firearms and ordered to attend Alcoholics Anonymous meetings.

Sung Jin Pak pleaded no contest to negligent discharge of a firearm and sentenced to three years of probation and five days of community service. In addition to the firearms ban, Pak was ordered to attend AA meetings weekly for the next six months.

On Oct. 12, Pak, who was still with the Sheriff's Department at the time, fired his gun into the air after chasing a group of kids who repeatedly rang his doorbell in a game of "ding-dong-ditch."

Pak is due back in court for a progress report on May 21.
