Man In Wheelchair Killed By Hit-And-Run Driver In Fullerton

FULLERTON (CBSLA.com) — A man in a wheelchair was killed by a hit-and-run driver, police said Tuesday.

The accident happened just before midnight in the 2600 block of West Orangethorpe Avenue in Fullerton.

The unidentified man was thrown 170 feet and his wheelchair landed in the middle of the roadway, according to authorities.

"He was crossing the street between controlled intersections, not in a crosswalk, and was struck by a vehicle traveling westbound," Sgt. Jeff Stuart said.

He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Officials believe the suspect's vehicle was either a white Ford Explorer or Expedition and was last seen heading westbound on Orangethorpe.

No additional information was released.
