Chef Geeta Bansal from Clay Oven in Irvine visit the KCAL9 studios Monday to talk about her new dishes that include the world’s hottest pepper.
The Trinidad Moruga Scorpion Chile is the world’s hottest pepper according to New Mexico State University’s Chile Pepper Institute registering at 1.2 million Scoville Heat Units (1 of these peppers packs the heat of roughly 400 jalapeños).
Bansal created a special lamb dish featuring the tiny, ultra-piquant fruit as its key ingredient. Anyone who consumes the entire dish, available through Aug & Sept, will receive a certificate acknowledging the feat and a chance to win the restaurant’s Tandoori Thanksgiving Turkey, which sells out every year.
Chef Geeta has been invited by the prestigious James Beard House in New York on Sept 27 to prepare a dinner featuring her modernized version of Indian cuisine. She will join such luminaries as Nobu Matsuhisa, Wolfgang Puck and Emeril Lagasse. She will be offering a sneak peak dinner before she leaves at her restaurant on Sept 15.
