1 Dead, At Least 1 Injured After Officer Involved Shooting In Valley

SAN FERNANDO (CBSLA.com) — One suspect is dead and two others are injured after an officer involved shooting Tuesday afternoon in San Fernando.

One woman was transported to the hospital with an apparent gunshot wound.

No officers were reported injured following the shooting.

San Fernando police officers were called after receiving reports of the shooting, which took place at 3:30 p.m. on the 800 block of Brand Avenue.

In the 9-1-1 call, a woman inside a home on Brand Blvd. said she was being held at gunpoint.

"As (officers) arrived, they observed the female victim running from the residence, and as they approached the residence, they were confronted by a man with a gun," LA County Sheriff's Dept. Lt. Dave Coleman said. "He raised the weapon at the officers, and an officer involved shooting occurred."

One resident, however, told a different story.

"...(the suspect) was like shooting in the air, dropped the gun, and then he took two steps and went to his knees first," resident Raul Arzate suggested. "So he was going down, when they started shooting him with high-powered rifles."

Investigators say the suspect shot the woman, who was taken to the hospital.

Police had established a perimeter around the block, and a command post has been set up in front of an elementary school.

The school had been on lockdown, which was lifted shortly before 4:20 p.m.
