Sunset Boulevard Reopens Following Water Main Break

WESTWOOD (CBSLA.com) — Sunset Boulevard reopened early Monday morning following a six-day closure after a water main broke and spilled 20 million gallons of water onto the UCLA campus.

The main broke Tuesday afternoon and crews have been working around the clock to replace the nearly 100-year-old pipe and repair the roadway.

"Fixing this major artery in our water supply and opening one of our busiest streets was an immensely complicated job, and I'm very proud that it was done with the highest standards of professionalism by our city workforce," Mayor Eric Garcetti said in a statement.

The Mayor added that motorists will be required to drive at reduced speeds on the affected part of Sunset this week.

Repairs to Sunset Boulevard have not been completed yet. Officials said a portion of the road will be closed again overnight Friday and Saturday, and if necessary on Sunday.
