Vigil Planned On 1 Year Anniversary Of Unsolved Murder Of HS Football Player
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — Friends and family of a 17-year-old high school football player slain a year ago Sunday, are planning a vigil to ask the public's help to solve the cold case.
Bijan Shoushtari, a football captain at Hamilton High School, was shot about 12:05 a.m. near Crenshaw Boulevard and Vernon Avenue, according to the Los Angeles Police Department.
He was driving with two friends in the area when suspects in a gray or silver vehicle pulled up alongside and someone inside began shooting into their vehicle, police said.
The teenager was shot three times and died two days later at a hospital from extreme blood loss.
At the time of the murder, the victim's distraught mother pleaded for an end to gang violence. She said her son dreamed of being a fire department paramedic.
There is a $50,000 reward, offered by the Los Angeles City Council, for information leading to the killer's apprehension and conviction.
Tonight's vigil was scheduled for 7 p.m. at Leimert Park, near the intersection where the shooting took place.
Anyone with information about the killing was urged to contact Los Angeles police at (877) LAPD-24-7.
