Mother Arrested In Pasadena After 2 Kids Found In Hot Car

PASADENA (CBSLA.com) — Pasadena police have arrested a woman after her two children were found locked in a hot car.

It's not known how long the children, a 3-year-old boy and a 7-year-old girl, were in the vehicle.

The car was found locked with the windows rolled up  in the 1800 block of N. Fair Oaks Avenue.

They were taken to a hospital for evaluation. Paramedics said the children were overcome by heat.

Officials estimated the temperature in the car got up to 120 degrees.

KCAL9's Juan Fernandez said the children were still hospitalized as of 10 p.m. Friday.

Officials told him the children were rescued "with seconds to spare."

"They were sweating profusely," said Lt. Art Chute with the Pasadena Police Department. "They were transported to Huntington Memorial Hospital."

The 35-year-old mother was arrested for possible child endangerment.

Child and Family Services is investigation.

"This is very devastating to me," said Cindy Amarillis, "to hear something like that. I'm a mother of two myself and I would never step away from a hot car with my children in it."

Witnesses told Fernandez the mother was keeping an appointment at the Pasadena Community Health Center.
