Teen Pedestrian Killed, Brother Injured In Possible NoHo Street Race

NORTH HOLLYWOOD (CBSLA.com) — A driver involved in a possible street race fatally struck a 17-year-old boy and injured his brother as they crossed a San Fernando Valley street.

The accident happened around 8:30 p.m. Wednesday in the 7000 block of N. Whitsett Avenue in North Hollywood, the Los Angeles Police Department said.

The brothers Milton Marquez, 17, and Daniel Menjivar were returning from a trip to a pharmacy when they crossed and were hit.

"The truck just came, they were racing. They took him, they took him and dragged him all the way over there. He was with me, you know. He grabbed me. He was behind me," Daniel Menjivar said of his brother, Martin.

The boys were not in a crosswalk, according to police.

Marquez died at the scene.

It was unclear what injuries, if any Menjivar faced.

The suspect vehicle is described as a black SUV, possibly an Cadillac Escalade, with front-end damage.

The driver was last seen fleeing the scene on the southbound Hollywood (170) Freeway from Sherman Way, the LAPD said.
