1 Killed, 4 Injured When Minivan Strikes Truck In Downey

DOWNEY (CBSLA.com) — One man was killed and four people, including the driver, were hurt when minivan veered into the center left-turn lane on Lakewood Boulevard and struck a big rig late Friday night, Downey police said.

A 19-year-old man was driving a 1997 Chevrolet Astro Van south on Lakewood Boulevard when it rear-ended the truck that was stopped in the middle turning lane near Florence Avenue at 10:45 p.m., police said. An 18-year-old passenger in the van was pronounced dead at the scene. The 19-year-old man driving the van and three other passengers, all ages 17 and 18, were taken to area hospitals with non-life threatening injuries.

The driver of the 2012 Freightliner tractor, which was pulling the 2001 Great Dane trailer the minivan struck, was not injured in the crash.
