Musicians + Sports: Chris Daughtry's Dream Team All-Star Athlete Band

By Radio.com

When it comes to all-star professional athletes to play in Chris Daughtry's imaginary band, two notoriously adversarial former Los Angeles Lakers would have to share the same stage again.

"Lebron (James) would be the frontman. It would just make sense," the fifth season American Idol finalist and pop-rock star in his own right explained during a recent Radio.com interview. "Let's put Kobe (Bryant) on guitar, Shaquille (O'Neal) on bass," he added, which would pair the longtime teammates who lead the Lakers to multiple NBA championships, in spite of the pair's often contentious relationship. "Now we need a drummer...let's go with Peyton Manning."

A high school athlete who "looked the part," even though he admits that "as far as the actual performance aspect of it, I was terrible," Daughtry still likes to imagine what it would be like to be a professional baseball player (ideally for the Boston Red Sox, his favorite MLB squad), and what song he'd use as his walk-up music.

"I'm a terrible baseball player," he said. "But if I was a good one, and I was walking out right now, there's a song by Chevelle called 'Take out the Gunman' that makes me feel like I could go out there and kill it pretty much."

Watch Daughtry discuss which of his own songs would make for killer walk-up music, his less than illustrious career in high school athletics and a couple of his famous musicians friends who can also rip it up at sports in the video interview above.

Daughtry and his eponymous band are currently spending the summer touring the country in support of their latest album, Baptized, which bowed in November of last year and features the singles "Battleships" and "Long Live Rock and Roll." Check out Daughtry's extensive tour itinerary here.
