1 Dead, 2 Seriously Injured From High-Speed Crash In Commerce

COMMERCE (CBSLA.com) — A 19-year-old man died Friday from injuries suffered in a street-racing crash that left two other people hospitalized with serious injuries, officials said.

Isaac Garcia,of Maywood died just before 12:30 a.m. at a hospital, officials said.

"It was not immediately known if he was the driver or a passenger in the Acura," said Ed Winter, assistant chief to the coroner.

The crash happened just before 10:30 p.m. Thursday in the 5500 block of Washington Boulevard in Commerce, the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said.

Two vehicles were racing when an Acura Integra lost control and hit a palm tree at a high rate of speed.

The impact of the collision ejected one man from the vehicle and trapped two others inside, officials said.

The victims were transported to County-USC Medical Center.

Authorities say the other two victims were stable.

Police have no information about the second vehicle involved in the race.

Authorities were trying to determine if drugs or alcohol were factors in the crash.

Washington Boulevard was shut down for hours for an investigation.
