1 Dead, 1 Injured In Anaheim Freeway Shooting
ANAHEIM (CBSLA.com) — Police Tuesday were investigating a fatal freeway shooting that killed one person and injured another in Orange County.
The shooting happened just after 8 p.m. Monday on the westbound 91 Freeway, just east of the 57 Freeway, in Anaheim, police said.
When emergency personnel arrived, they found a white Ford F-150 stopped at the interchange with four passengers inside, two of which were suffering from gunshot wounds.
“They were traveling west on the 91 freeway when the front windows shattered from an apparent shooting,” Lt. Bob Dunn said.
The front passenger, 32-year-old Agustin Villegas, of Anaheim, was pronounced dead at the scene from a gunshot wound to the head.
The driver, a 42-year-old man, was taken to UCI Medical Center with non-life threatening injuries.
“In the backseat of the Ford were two males, 13 and 15 years-old,” Lt. Dunn said, adding that the backseat passengers were the sons of the two victims.
There was no motive for the shooting, however, it does not appear to be road rage.
“We don’t know what precipitated this at all. It simply just someone shooting, if they were shooting from a vehicle, if they were shooting from the side of the freeway, we don’t know at this point, so we’re hoping the public comes forward and helps us out,” Lt. Dunn said.
All lanes of the 91 Freeway were reopened just after 2:40 a.m.
