Paddle-Out To Honor Lifeguard Who Drowned During Newport Beach Rescue

NEWPORT BEACH (CBSLA.com) — Two memorials were to take place Sunday in Newport Beach to remember a veteran lifeguard who drowned during a rescue.

A paddle-out in honor of Ben Carlson was slated for 9 a.m. on the east side of the pier.

A memorial to celebrate Carlson’s life was scheduled for Sunday evening on the beach at Orange Street.

The 32-year-old veteran lifeguard drowned while saving a swimmer last Sunday.
