PALMDALE (CBSLA.com) — An Air Force pilot had a lot more to celebrate this Fourth of July when he struck big on the popular CBS game show “The Price is Right.”

CBS2/KCAL9 reporter Cristy Fajardo was with Kevin Van Stone and his family when the $100,000 check was delivered Thursday to their Palmdale home.

“Oh, wow,” Van Stone said, as he was handed a large 4-foot long cardboard replica of the check, complete with show host Drew Carey’s signature in the right-hand corner.

“Of course, seeing the Publishers Clearing House commercials with someone showing up at their door with a big check, I was like, ‘Yeah, that probably doesn’t really happen,’ ” he said.

Van Stone appeared on the show along with other service members on the game show’s Fourth of July “Salute to the Troops.” While playing the game, he made a lucky guess and accurately estimated a box of nasal strips costs $14.99. He gambled $10,000 of his prize money on that final bet and it paid off big.

As Carey announced he’s won $100,000, Van Stone literally jumped for joy.

“Honestly, I didn’t believe him. He was like, ‘Really, I won it,'” the pilot’s wife, Melinda, said while laughing. “It’s kind of hard to believe that he won $100,000 on the ‘Price is Right.'”

Van Stone’s son told Fajardo he’s proud of his dad.

So, what’s Van Stone going to do with the money?

“I would like to take my wife on a very nice honeymoon. We did get married just about a week and a half ago,” he said.
