Glendora Woman Narrowly Escapes Tragedy On Freeway After She's Hit By Flying Wrench

GLENDORA (CBSLA.com)  —  A Glendora woman is recovering from a near certain tragedy when the car she was driving in on the 605 Freeway was struck by a flying wrench.

The incident happened Friday evening in Irwindale.

KCAL9's Brittney Hopper spoke to the woman on Saturday evening.

It's a story Only On CBS2 and KCAL9.

Priscilla Araiza says she saw a silver object come toward her as she was driving.

The damage to her car is obvious. But Araiza told Hopper  it could have been much worse.

The Glendora woman said she was driving along with two passengers in the freeway's 2nd lane -- going about 65 miles per hour --when a wrench came flying through her windshield.

"I think I'm still in shock. I don't think the full affect has [hit me]. Something could have really happened. We could not be sitting here having this conversation," Araiza said.

There was glass everywhere. Araiza's legs and face were bloodied. The wrench eventually came to a stop after hitting her in the shoulder.

She still has the wrench in her possession

"I must have had angels that day because if I would have been hit with that wrench, I could have passed out. I could have lost control of the car. All of us could have been killed," Araiza said.

She still doesn't exactly know how the bizarre incident happened.

She says all she saw was a utility truck driving in the opposite direction prior to the wrench hitting her car.  She immediately pulled over and called 911.

Araiza doesn't know if the wrench was thrown intentionally or if it accidentally came flying out of the truck. She told Hopper that she's just thankful no one was seriously hurt.
