Stage Singer George Ball Releases First-Ever Album At 80 Years Old

OJAI (CBSLA.com) — Singer George Ball, star of local musicals such as "Sweeney Todd", decided it was finally time to release his first-ever CD — at 80 years old.

"I finally looked at the clock on the wall and said 'I think if I'm gonna do this, I better do it,' " he said.

As a stage performer, Ball was used to delivering songs with a certain kind of oomph, but the music on his album was a new adventure.

"What happened was, I went into the studio and on the very first day, I realized 'Uh-oh, this is something you're going to have to learn,' " he said. "The bottom line is, I looked at where I am in my life, and I thought about what it was I wanted to say about that and that's what ended up on the album."

Ball has been married to his wife Amanda, who is also a singer, for 43 years.

"I learned how to perform because of him, and so it's always a joy to be on stage with him," she said.

She added how proud she was of her husband's accomplishment.

"This is his creation and having done some recording of my own, every one is your own baby," she said. "He is a living testimonial to don't ever stop pursuing your dream. The calendar should not stop you. If there's something that you have to present to the world, do it!"
