Lancaster Man Charged With Raping 4 Women Due In Court

LANCASTER (CBSLA.com) — A Lancaster man Wednesday was charged with sexually assaulting four women in attacks dating back to 2009, the Los Angeles District Attorney's Office announced.

James Smith, 35, was arrested Monday after he allegedly abducted and sexually assaulted a 19-year-old woman.

He is charged with two counts of forcible rape, and one count each of forcible oral copulation, sexual penetration by a foreign object, sodomy by use of force and attempted sodomy by use of force.

Smith is scheduled to be arraigned Wednesday afternoon at the Foltz Criminal Justice Center. Prosecutors are expected to ask that his bail be set at $5.1 million.

In addition to Monday's alleged attack, Smith is accused of assaulting a a 20-year-old woman on Dec. 24, 2009; a 43-year-old woman on Sept. 24, 2011; and a 33-year-old woman on March 23, 2012, according to the District Attorney's Office.

If convicted, Smith faces up to life in prison.
