Woman Fatally Shot, Man Critically Injured While Sitting In SUV In Willowbrook

WILLOWBROOK (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Friday were searching for four suspects who fatally shot a 37-year-old woman as she sat in her SUV.

The incident took place around 10:50 p.m. Thursday in the 700 block of East 137th Street, near Stanford Avenue.

Police believe the woman and a 66-year-old male passenger were inside a parked SUV when two cars pulled up next to them.

Officials said the four suspects then exited their vehicles and began shooting at the victims.

"We believe four male blacks exited those two cars and began firing at the SUV," sheriff's Lt. Dave Coleman said.

The male victim was shot multiple times, but was able to escape. He was taken to a hospital in critical condition.

The woman was pronounced dead at the scene.

Nearby residents said they heard the gunfire.

"About 12 rounds, about 12 shots. It sounded ugly, something you don't want to be part of," Jose Quintero said.

A resident, who wished to remain unidentified, said the male victim would help her family when they went on vacation.

"He would look out for the house. Make sure nobody comes in here," she said.

The suspects, who were believed to be in a 4-door white compact car and a 4-door dark-colored vehicle, fled the scene.

No other details were immediately available.
