Man Suspected Of Abducting 2-Year-Old Son Reportedly Spotted In Boyle Heights

BOYLE HEIGHTS (CBSLA.com) — Authorities suspect a man accused of abducting his 2-year-old son in March may still be in the Southland.

Abraham Vargas, 27, was spotted Friday afternoon near Fourth Avenue and Soto Street in Boyle Heights, according to a tip reported to the Los Angeles Police Department.

The man thought to be Vargas was sporting a new goatee, had shaved his head and was riding a black BMX-style bicycle, Detective Megan Aguilar said.

Vargas allegedly took his son, Edwin, around 6:30 p.m. March 23 from the 1000 block of Lorena Street. When officers arrived, the boy's mother said her ex-boyfriend had taken their child.

Police issued an Amber Alert and say Vargas may be traveling in an orange 2004 Nissan Quest with tinted windows. They suspected Vargas had headed to Mexico but Friday's tip may suggest otherwise.

Anyone with information about Vargas' whereabouts was asked to call detectives at (323) 342-8900.
