BUENA PARK (CBSLA.com) — Knott’s Berry Farm’s iconic Calico Mine Ride, a park favorite since it opened in 1960, will reopen Saturday after a six-month renovation, park officials announced.

The refurbishment began in early January and includes dozens of new animatronic figures, state-of-the art lighting, audio and special effects in the eight-minute ride.

The attraction had a special place in park founder Walter Knott’s heart, as he had worked in actual mines around the turn of the century in the Calico mining region of San Bernardino County before calling Buena Park home.

Nearly fifty animatronic humans and dozens more animals populate the updated adventure, with more than 120 characters spread through classic and re-imagined scenes, the park said.

Also celebrating its grand reopening Saturday is the park’s Camp Snoopy, featuring three new rides for kids and families.
