SFV Residents On Edge After Fliers With Swastikas Dropped In Carports
LOS ANGELES (CBSLA.com) — San Fernando Valley residents are on edge after fliers containing messages of hate were discovered in two neighborhoods.
Police are investigating reports of Valley Village and North Hollywood residents receiving fliers with Nazi symbols dropped in carports.
KCAL9’s Andrea Fujii reports Valley Village resident Ken, who did not want his full identity revealed, found one Monday morning after it was dropped through the slats of his apartment complex garage.
“I just saw the papers on the ground strewn and I immediately noticed the swastika,” he said. “To have somebody that hateful in the neighborhood passing out fliers – I don’t want my children to be exposed to that.”
The four-paragraph flier references Governor Jerry Brown and the police, and says they are considering “executing all of you.”
It also claims Governor Brown is “trying to decide if the Nazis and the cops should murder everyone.”
People who live in the area are surprised such words of hate are circulating in their neighborhoods.
“It is concerning. It’s not appropriate and it’s out of line that there’d be that much hatred,” Valley Village resident Mark Evans said.
“There’s a crazy person around somewhere,” Valley Village resident Tiffany Arnold added.
North Hollywood police say they’ve received several reports of the fliers within the last few months and are looking at a person of interest.
Police had not made an arrest at press time.
They say if the suspect is caught, he or she could face hate crime charges.
