CARLSBAD (CBSLA.com)  —  Firefighters on Thursday found a badly-burned body while battling a brush fire near Carlsbad.

Officials did not say if the victim was a man or a woman.

The victim is likely a transient, officials said.

The charred body was found -- about two miles from where it's believed the blaze started -- near a transient encampment  at Ambrosia Lane and Calliandra Road, said authorities.

An investigation into the death -- including the identity of the victim and cause of death -- is on going.
