18-Year-Old Killed In Shotgun Attack On Residential Street In Pico Rivera

PICO RIVERA (CBSLA.com) — Authorities Sunday said they were investigating the shotgun murder of an 18-year-0ld male on a residential street in Pico Rivera.

The victim was found in the 9200 block of Claymore Street about 12:39 a.m., the Los Angeles County Sheriff's Department said in news release.

The statement said the man had sustained multiple gunshot wounds. He was pronounced dead at the scene.

Sunday evening, officials identified the victim as Joseph Richard Flores of Whittier.

Bryan Vargas, a friend of the victim's, said that he was in his house when he heard a car pull up and ask Flores "where he was from," a typical gang challenge.

The friend told the San Gabriel Valley Tribune Flores was not a gang member.

"He was a very good kid. He wouldn't hurt a fly. He always had a smile on his face. I can't believe it," Vargas told the newspaper.

No suspect information was immediately available, authorities said.
