SAN PEDRO (CBSLA.com) — A fisherman in his 50s was believed to be in grave condition after being pulled from the water in San Pedro.

KNX 1070’s Ed Mertz reported that the injured fisherman was with another man on the rock jetty near the Point Fermin lighthouse at the time.

Officials say the two were 75-to-100 yards apart from each other when the friend looked over, and saw the victim struggling in the water.

It’s not clear how the man ended up in the water, says LAFD spokesperson Katherine Main.

“The Los Angeles Fire Department responded by air, sea, and ground and did in fact affect a rescue with LAFD divers of one fisherman,” Main said.

Investigators say the victim’s fishing gear may have hindered his efforts to swim.
