Barricade Situation In Ontario Reportedly Ends With Suspect Killing Himself

ONTARIO (CBSLA.com) — Authorities in Ontario said an hours-long standoff situation at a man's home apparently ended with the suspect shooting himself fatally.

SWAT teams officers were dispatched to a home in the 2900 block of Dunlin Way, at S. Seagull Avenue, following reports of a man firing a gun inside the dwelling.

The incident began just after 3 p.m. when officers said they received a call in which the caller said nothing but just hung up. Authorities could not reach a person when they called the number back.

When officers checked on the residence, they said a woman answered the door and said that a man inside had a gun. Police ordered the woman and a small child she was standing near to exit the house at once.

As she walked outside with the child, police said the man shut the door behind them.

Officers reported hearing yelling and a single gunshot. At this time, authorities said they moved the woman and child to safety.

The relationship of the suspect and the man and child was not given.

As they moved the woman and child to a safer location, officials said they heard a second gunshot.

The woman told police the suspect -- a 30-year-old man armed with a shotgun -- had been using methamphetamine.

Officials said they spent several hours trying to communicate with the suspect but were met with no response.

About 9:20 p.m., SWAT officers entered the home and began a search of the premises. They said they discovered the suspect dead in the living room with an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound.

The name of the deceased was being withheld pending notification of his next of kin.
